Here in Winnipeg, Mickey D's is everywhere. I don't know exactly how many outlets they have here, but it's high. There is one that is actually not too far away from where I live- and it happens to be across the street from a high school! (Coincidence?).

It wasn't always this way- it took about a decade or so for McDonald's to expand beyond the United States after it was founded. But, like it or not, it's here, and many people still eat at it (I don't mind it once in a while...).

That being said, I have no doubt that CosMc's, despite its stupid name, is going to show up here soon as well, and that I might try it given the chance. They could just set up shop right beside the regular McDonald's shops and offer the old and new versions together!

But since you mentioned "The Jetsons", I clearly can sense that you want to be like Mr. Spacely and call for whomever came up with the idea for CosMc's to be fired....

LOL - yes, I'll call up Mr. Spacely immediately! Just do not get any of those ultra high sugar drinks. They are even more sugar packed than sodas. It's WAY too much. We used to visit a sit-down barbecue chain that served pink lemonade that I was certain was half high fructose corn syrup - I think that is what these new drinks are.

profits is all that matters. Sugar is cheap and addictive. Perfect for profits.

Those big corporations have to show not just profits every quarter, but they have to demonstrate increased profits (Wall Street rules). Once you have saturated the market so you cannot expand by expanding sales, you have to focus on other factors to get those rising profits. Its an infinite trajectory and ultimately will lead to very destructive outcomes. Remember that senior executives are compensated by bonuses based on profit growth. The banking crisis was a perfect example. This one is based on food ... they will poison people if it is profitable. All of this just follows trajectory paths ... when you see those paths you can see where they lead ... its not good. Good article Amy.

Thank you so much Danny!! Guess what I realized this a.m. I'm pretty sure the Sackler family are very dedicated Zionists. And how convenient that criticizing Zionists is supposed to be the same as being anti-Semitic and supporting the WW2 Holocaust!

I truly thought - McDonalds is a huge corporation with smart people - they'll start trying to make and sell appealing, healthier foods. Bzzt! Wrong.

A corollary of the iron law of organizations is that they can't change. They become highly optimized for one thing, and then can't adapt. The bigger they are, the more locked in they become.

They started out standardizing food and serving simple foods at a low price. Now this. A devolution for sure.
